The 2020 Live Your Dream Award ceremony was held Saturday, February 29 at Gardner Village.  There were many in attendance to honor the recipients of the Live Your Dream Award.  Among those in attendance were family and friends of the Live Your Dream award recipients, judges from the Salt Lake Soroptimist club level and the district level, and Soroptimist members and guests.  All in attendance were excited to celebrate and honor the Live Your Dream award recipients. They are proud of what the recipients have accomplished and were pleased to learn about their aspirations for the future. 

 

To be eligible to receive the Live Your Dream Award:

• They are a woman with primary financial responsibility for themselves and their dependents

• They are attending an undergraduate degree program or a vocational skills training program

• They have a financial need
   

There were many applicants for the Live Your Dream awards.   Judges who were selected from the community and are not members of Soroptimist, reviewed in detail many applications for the Live Your Dream awards.  It was very difficult to make a selection from so many deserving individuals for the Live Your Dream awards.

Donna Smith, Chair of Live Your Dream presented the awards.  Rebekah Louder, first-place winner received an award of $2,500.00.  Suzanne Freeman, second-place winner received $2,000.00 and Amy Rasmuson, third-place winner received $1,500.00. 

After each recipient received their certificate and cash award, they shared their experiences.  They were able to turn their lives around after facing much difficulty and challenges in their lives.  They are committed to improving their educational skills and have empowerment to reach their full potential.  Each recipient shared their aspirations for their future and how the awards will help them to reach their educational goals and enable them to attain their goals.  They shared how their commitment is having an impact on their families and improving their lives.

Jan Crane presented the Jeanne's Happy Heart Award to Carly Chavira. This award is sponsored in memory of Jeanne Schneiter Adovnik, a long-time Soroptimist.  The awardee is selected from the Live Your Dream Award applications.

We are proud of these women and what they have accomplished and are pleased to be of support to them.

The Live Your Dream awards start at the local club level.  The first-place recipient goes on to the district level.  The applicant is then reviewed along with all the other club’s award recipients in the district.  One applicant is selected to go on to Region, where they are considered to receive a cash award.  We are so pleased that Rebekah Louder, first-place award recipient for Salt Lake Soroptimist was selected to go onto the Region level.
